The next hour is pleasant. Beatrice talks about herself, and I’m grateful that she isn’t asking me a lot of questions. When she has exhausted the topic of what she does, she asks what I do.

“I’m looking for work, actually.”

She turns to look at me. “Why do I feel that work is looking for you?”

I quickly change the subject. “You said I was purple. What is that?”

“It’s your aura. Usually indicates someone is intuitive, maybe even psychic. Yours is a little wavy. I suspect you like to think about things. You hold that intuition in check.”

“What does a gray aura mean?”

“You saw an aura?” She glances my way but it’s not until she turns back to the road that her eyebrows go up. “Was it during sex?”

Was it? Jackson had me hanging by my wrists and he was flogging my back. Is that sex or is that foreplay? I hear a sharp intake of breath from Beatrice.

“I just got a visual. I never suspected you were so adventurous. It’s always the quiet ones. What color gray?”

“Well, I imagined I was looking down on him as he…um, he…”

“As he flogged you?”

She really did get an image. “Yes.”

“Sounds like an out-of-body experience. I’m impressed. And it looked gray?”

“Then he slipped the blindfold off and it looked silver.”

“Hmm. Gray and silver are two different auras. Grey is blocked energy. Someone who has trouble letting go, while silver is the color of abundance.”

“Both of those fit this man.”

“Well, I can’t wait to meet him.”

I giggle, imagining what Jackson would think of Beatrice. “He’s not coming out here.”

“Don’t be so sure of that.”

I stop laughing. Jackson meeting my family isn’t quite so funny anymore.
